Memolink Review: a Legit Survey and Rewards Site or a Scam?

Memolink is basically a web-based rewards program like InboxDollars.com that enables members to earn points by performing a multitude of online tasks. These points can then be exchanged for either cash or gift certificates.

To write this review of the site I needed to get back to the site again as I was not active on it for the last 2-3 years. I first signed-up with the site in the year 2008 and although it was fantastic back then, I stopped with it after some time because of the low money earning prospects.

But writing this review meant I had to be active again on the site and complete offers before cashing out for at least the past few weeks and thereabouts. This is the only way for me to offer a precise and up-to-date review of Memolink.com and its inner workings. So read on for more.

About Memolink

Memolink.com is based out of Colorado and has been into the business of offering online rewards to members since the year 1998.

Members can earn their rewards by completing some simple web-based tasks. For example, you can earn rewards for doing things like taking surveys, online shopping, reading emails, visiting Facebook, playing games, participating in sweepstakes and contests, trying out different offers and many other activities.

The site is on the constant lookout for members who are eager to take on different tasks to earn points.

The site is owned and operated by Adperio, a company whose specialization lies in performance based marketing and where it has been a prominent player for close to 18 years now.

The company was originally started by David Asseoff as Memolink, Inc. in 1994 with the aim of catering to the needs of college marketing.

He began by selling off the perimeter advertising space on the ubiquitous dry-erase college students’ boards to up and coming businesses.

After three years, David realized the potential offered by internet marketing and subsequently wooed his vendors to take a chance with online advertising. This led to the formation of Memolink.com, which has today morphed into a well-known web-based rewards program.

Over the last six consecutive years, Adperio has found mention in Inc. Magazine’s list of 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America. Also, the last five years have seen the company being hailed as among the Best Companies to Work For when it comes to Colorado.

BBB Rating

Memolink has also enjoyed accreditation from the BBB since 2007. It currently holds an A+ from the organization and to its credit, has only 5 complaints against its name over the past 3 years.

And even then, each one of those complaints was related to the product/service. This compares favorably vis-a-vis dodgy companies as they generally tend to have many complaints against their name.

Membership

In what is an absolute downer, the site isn’t open to people from outside of Canada and the USA. If you reside outside of these two countries and still sign-up with the site, your account is sure to get disabled.

Signing-up itself is free, although Memolink does require credit card information (by the way, you should read this article. It’s a great guide on how to protect your credit card when using it online) or some payment for certain shopping features/special offers.

However, membership is divided into two types. The first one is a basic membership while the second goes by the MemoGold moniker.

MemoGold, as is evident by the name, is more of an elite level membership.

Some of the benefits over a regular basic membership are:

• High priority customer service
• 10% Increase in all awarded points
• Automatic entry into a quarterly held drawing for gift cards worth $25.
• Access to extra point earning avenues and special contests.

To receive MemoGold membership, basic members need to “fill up their star”.

On the account of every member, there is an icon in the shape of a star. Once this star fills up completely, the said member automatically becomes an elite member for a 6 month period. For this to happen, members are required to finish a specific number of opportunities and earn a specified amount of points.

In this 6 month duration of the membership, a member can choose to refill his/her star in order to further enjoy the benefits of a MemoGold membership.

Earning Points

Although there are many different methods to earn points with Memolink, all of them can be segregated into 5 important categories with each of them having further sub-categories.

• Daily Surveys
• Free Trials
• Referral Programs
• Shopping & Rewards
• Deals & Coupons

Rewards

Once you finish a task, the points associated with the same are sent to your account. This happens till the time you opt for a cash-out. These accumulated points can be traded in for 4 separate options. These are:

1. Cash: Get $100 for 163,200 points or $10 for 19,200 points (other amounts also exist in between).
2. PayPal: a payment made to your PayPal account.
3. Receive Gift Certificates: (for e.g. to McDonalds) - $10 gift card for 19,200 points.
4. Donate to Charity: (for e.g. to Red Cross) – give $10 for 19,200 points or $250 for 403,200 points (with other amounts existing in between)

Some other compensation modes are also available like coupon codes for use at major online retail stores. While giving you instant money savings, coupon codes also help you earn points for purchasing stuff.

Retailers whose coupons you can get here include Apple Store, Best Buy, Babies-R-Us, 1-800-CONTACTS, and 1-800-PETMEDS.

The choice of online retailers is quite comprehensive and this makes for a great saving method if you’re going to buy stuff from those retailers anyways.

Memolink Complaints

There are some complaints from members regarding Memolink where they have alleged that the site failed to meet its payment commitments.

Some of these members have been part of the site for a very long period now and after meticulously saving up points, they find themselves letdown with long waiting times and the occasional failure to deliver rewards.

Although the site’s staff has come out with press releases attributing these non-payments and delays to a temporary backlog, reports of quite a few members having to wait years on end for their rewards before frustratingly calling it quits have been doing the rounds.

Takeaway

Yes, Memolink is indeed a legitimate business that offers various rewards programs. It also tops the popularity charts with more than 10 million members.

A majority of the members seem to be enjoying the savings they make on shopping while the idea of earning points by completing tasks is also quite well-received.

The only dissenting voices were concerning the redemption/exchange of these points. Some members have had to wait for years before receiving their gift cards. However, the site does have in place a support mechanism, which all members should fully use to register complaints regarding their rewards.

Having said that and considering that the site does pay out on time without any hassles, it still doesn’t seem lucrative enough for me.

When you weigh the amount of time you put in against the Memolink points you earn in return, you’ll see that the outcome is anything but equal; at least that is how I see it.
