Today, I am going to review a true survey panel that many people swear by. It is called Mindswarms, and it claims it pays $50 for 7 questions surveys and $10 for 1 question surveys.
Let’s see if this panel does really pay that much and whether or not it is worth your time.
Join Point Club, a new survey site that earns you rewards from Games, Deals, Video and even Celebrity Gossip.
About this Market Research Company
MindSwarms.com is not your ordinary survey panel where you have to type in your answers. It has a real innovative scheme for their business customers, offering them “Rich consumer feedback via webcam, fast”.
That’s right, you will be “answering” surveys through videos!
I like to believe that their business model has been working, which is why they can pay generously to members agreeing to participate in studies.
The reality of the day is that the market is dynamic. In fact, it is so dynamic that manufactures and businesses can no longer simply count on what the target market is thinking of their products and services. They have to also see those physical and emotional aspects that guide their decisions. So the more information you can collect, the better it is for them.
Try Swagbucks, the famous rewards program that pays you for watching videos, taking surveys, shopping and more.
Side note: For those of you geeky enough like me, who are interested in how the industry has evolved throughout the years to gather more and better consumer feedback, read The Evolution of Marketing Research on the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s School of Business blog.
Another element in this equation is the swiftness in collecting these responses. The faster the businesses and manufacturers can learn about the market needs, the more competitive they are going to become.
It is with these considerations that MindSwarms.com shapes its business. Their pitch is any customer can conduct a marketing research study in just a matter of minutes, with feedback and responses collected in just hours.
The two incentives to businesses are quick execution and quick turnaround so that they can perform better than the competition.
Profile on the BBB
Naturally, I checked with the Better Business Bureau to find out more about the site. But I couldn’t find any profile for Mindswarms Inc.
I will update this review if and when this changes.
How Does it Work?
With such cutting-edge thinking, it is natural that this website has to operate a little differently, in comparison to other survey panels online.
More than just expecting you to punch away your keyboard in front of your PC or laptop, Mindswarms wants you to record yourself answering the questions in the survey. Needless to say, you will need a webcam on your computer to film yourself while answering the questions of the survey.
The above explains the background, now you need to sign up before any work can start.
Registration is straightforward: its the same as with any other site, except you also have to set up your webcam to pass their screening. The site has the complete details on how to do it.
Do take note that the company has a screening practice.
Some preliminary questions will be sent through e-mail to you to determine your fitness to undertake certain surveys. If they are satisfied with your responses to these screening questions, you will be offered the job via e-mail with a link embedded into it. By following the link, you will be led into your account’s dashboard.
As mentioned earlier, the panel is not just interested in what your answers are to the supplied questionnaire, they also want to examine other attributes such as facial expressions, body language and all, which is why they require video responses.
Such requirements are consistent with those familiar with criminal law and psychology. Invariably, all signals emitted out from any exchange or dialog would be important parameters that help to complement or supplement the actual content of the exchange.
Anyway, don’t take it as a daunting task, usually a survey can be wrapped up inside 20 minutes.
There is no preset limit on the number of surveys members are allowed to participate in. The only criteria is that you are available and you are a good fit for the intended survey.
Let us now talk about the non-verbal aspect of the survey. MS has certain expectations when it comes to the video and how you do it:
- there has to be even illumination on light around your face
- you may be required to hold up the product while being shot for product placement purpose
- casual dressing
- they want engaged in-depth responses (no they won’t settle with one liners, or worse, one-worded response)
- minimum background noise, it is harder to decipher your response in a noisy environment
- showing emotion where appropriate (don’t go overboard, we are all guided by a set of commonly acceptable decency code)
Who Can Join?
The website is open to all residents from all corners of the world.
As international as it is, do keep in mind that the website is available only in English (as are most other panels, like Opinion Outpost surveys), naturally you need to have a basic understanding of English.
But the site also spells out its expectation. For surveys that are soliciting inputs from international audience, it doesn’t expect participants to be of fluent English speakers. But surely you must be able to speak in a way that they understand.
Rewards & Payment
As mentioned earlier, they have just 2 different kinds of surveys; surveys with 7 questions, and surveys that have only 1 question. All 7 questions surveys will fetch you $50 flat, and all 1 question surveys will earn you $10.
In other word, there is no entering sweepstakes and possibly winning something. No, you either get $10 or $50 for every single survey you participate in.
The turnaround for payment is usually around one day, when it could be credited directly to your PayPal. (If you don’t have one, you can get a PayPal account for free by registering at PayPal.com).
At the time of writing, there is a sign up bonus of $50 upon successful registration and correct configuration of your WebCam (they will test it out through some survey questionnaires).
Is it a Scam?
Naturally, when a website suddenly pays a very generous $10 or $50 for a single survey participation, doubts will be raised. But I can tell you for sure that it is completely legit and participants do get paid. They enjoy a good reputation on the Web, and you can validate these through Google search on its name.
But, don’t expect to be getting survey invites every day (although that would be nice). The invites are far and few in between. Nonetheless, you do receive those survey invites here and there, and when you do, you know you are going to get either $10 or $50.
Sites Like Mindswarms
When I initially discovered this panel, I was very excited. You know, answering surveys by recording yourself is much more fun that sitting through a boring 20 minutes surveys and ticking heck boxes. Not to mention the big payment they offer. So, I went on the hunt to discover more sites like it.
Unfortunately, my search wasn’t fruitful. I didn’t find any other video survey site. Although, there are many other survey panels, like SurveySavvy that pay decently for each survey.
If you like, bookmark this post, as I will update this section when I do find other similar sites that let you participate in surveys through videos.
Mindswarms is a company that is highly recognized for its innovation brought into the market research industry. They are obviously good paymaster and they pay on time. Throughout my years in the survey panel market, I have seen many decently high paying survey sites, but none of them paid as much as Mindswarms.
So, I do recommend joining this panel (here is the link to the site), adding another trusted site to your list of income generating survey sites.
EarningStation is a new rewards program that pays you for doing things you already do online. You can cash out after every $10 you make.
